Rihanna served as usual. After HOURS of waiting she finally stepped out and graced us with another Met Gala delivery.

Tonight’s event is honoring Comme des Garçons’ designer Rei Kawakubo, but tbh most attendants ignored the theme and went for same old same old (yes, especially pointing at you Kylie Jenner). Rihanna went all in though, successfully following the theme while also making it incredibly her. Look at the dress and the shoes and the makeup. I suspect it is Fenty Beauty, launching this fall (look for it at Sephora).

For the second performance she sang Rude boy (my fave), What’s my name (ok I love this even more) and Work (ICONIC) alongside hundreds of people all down for Rihanna’s party.

After that homicide, a picture surfaced that had us all freaking out. Drake was spotted suited up backstage, and that could only mean one thing: he’s going to present her with the vanguard award and propose in the process. I’m not kidding. This was the only thought that went through my mind upon seeing him in that bowtie. And my eyes teared up, because Aubrih <3

What happened next you ask? She ended the show with THE performance of the night. So classy, so over the top, so beautiful. From the ANTi World Tour to the VMA stage – this is Rihanna. Vulnerable, raw and engaged. LINK because I can’t figure out how to get the damn video into the blog.

Directly after Love on the brain Drake walked up on stage and handed her the Vanguard.

Here, I lost it. 100% gone is what I was. Am. I heard him saying ”she’s someone I’ve been in love with since I was 22 years old” and screamed. She on the other hand just rolled her eyes.

He went on praising her existence, saying ”most of all we love the woman that hasn’t changed since day one”. She responded with a dab.

He tried kissing her. She dodged.

But they wore matching outfits which was cute. Or, Drake picked something that would match Rih’s look. That’s also cute though.

Now, let’s focus on Rihanna’s speech. She was as natural as always and I got goosebumps on several occasions. Like when she said this:

News just broke that Robyn Rihanna Fenty is this year’s Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award recipient.

At 28, she is the youngest artist to receive the award, along with Madonna who got it in 1986. The award is given to musicians who have made a profound effect on the MTV culture, honoring an artist’s body of work.

Seeing how it’s a Lifetime Achievement Award, it’s not surprising most have to until at least their 30s but with Rihanna, a lifetime of work is already accounted for (with much more to come, of course). The ceremony airs live on air on Sunday, August 28, from Madison Square Garden (first time in VMA history).

I truly madly deeply hope she’ll perform an ANTI medley. Like all of it, interludes included. Not sure I would survive, but it’d be a nice way to go.

Ms. Fenty has also landed nominations for Best Female Video with ”Work”, Best Male Video with Calvin Harris’ and her’s ”This Is What You Came For” plus two nominations in the Best Collaboration category for the same songs.
