I maj 2016 tog sig ett barn ner i en inhägnad på Cincinnati Zoo. I inhägnaden bodde en gorilla som fått namnet Harambe, vilket enligt halvsäkra källor betyder ”working together, pulling together, helping each other” på swahili. Det trodde du inte när du klickade på den här länken va, att du skulle få utbildning på köpet? Du har mycket att lära av mig, ska jag säga!
Hur som helst. Harambe greppade tag i pojken och började släpa bort honom, och ett par minuter senare sköt en anställd apan för att rädda pojken. Så han dog. Apan dog. Och alltihop filmades och lades förstås upp på Youtube. För vad är vi för sorts människor om vi inte laddar upp saker på Youtube? Jag vill inte leva i ett samhälle där allt inte hamnar på Youtube. Jag vill ha FLER saker på Youtube!
Folk blev, inte helt otippat, rasande över hur situationen hanterats och snart poppade Justice for Harambe-upprop upp överallt. Och är det något vi lärt oss är det att upprop gör reell skillnad här i världen. Skoja, ingen har någonsin åstadkommit något genom upprop, förutom att få bättre koll på skolbarn och även i de fallen händer det att man tappar bort en unge eller två. Upprop kan framför allt inte återuppliva en stackars gorilla. Vad det däremot kan göra är att väcka internets märkliga krafter, vilket var exakt vad som hände i det här fallet. Snart var Harambe ett meme modell märkligare.
Den goda gorillan placerades exempelvis bredvid andra storheter som dött 2016 och det såg ut ungefär såhär.
Som så ofta här i världen (wow, jag låter uråldrig) blev saker snart ännu konstigare. Enter det underbara fenomenet ”Dicks out for Harambe.” På riktigt, jag blir typ fnissig bara jag tänker på dicks out for Harambe. Det är för dumt. Och för kul. Och ännu roligare och dummare blir det när man tänker på att allt började här:
En liten kille med fejkpistol lovade alltså minnesblottning, och så var det igång. Subredditen /r/dicksoutforharambe föddes, hashtagmotsvarigheten började trenda, över hela världen var män (pojkar) redo att med stolthet visa det en mor verkligen inte bör älska till gorillans minne. Det slutar förstås inte där. Någon hackade zooets (stavning?!) twitter, därefter uttalade sig representanter därifrån och bad världen lägga ner, vilket världen förstås inte gjorde. Harambes minne lever kvar och fram med snoppen för apan-sköjet med det.
