Gamergate-hösten (och vintern) 2014 var mycket, men framför allt var det en signal för ett uppvaknande. Kritiken mot förlegade stereotyper och ruttna strukturer blev någon slags självuppfyllande profetia, där kvinnliga spelutvecklare ansattes hårt av manliga “gamers”. Ingen ny företeelse, bara till en tidigare oöverträffad grad. Organiserat och tydligt orkestrerat människohat.
Det som slog en var att det här inte är något som enbart avgränsar sig till spelcommunityt. Egentligen heller inte bara till teknikindustrin – nej, hela samhället. Men just i techsektorn–- dit många av de som räknar sig själva som planetens främsta hjärnor huserar – är problemen otroligt påtagliga. Idag är var fjärde ingenjör på arbetsmarknaden kvinna. 34 procent av de studenter som söker sig till KTH är kvinnor. Det här har så klart ingenting med det biologiska könet att göra. Vi fostras att tro att data- och it-området, till exempel, är en manlig sfär dit andra kön inte har tillträde.
Därför är det så fantastiskt att initiativ som Tekla tas.
Vi frågade världens bästa Robyn (som tilldelades KTH:s Stora Pris 2013) om vad Tekla egentligen är, och hur den kom till.
– Tekla är en festival som jag och Lina Thomsgård tänkte fram när KTH frågade mig om jag ville göra ett seminarium i och med att jag fick deras Stora Pris 2013. De 200 tjejer som kommer på festivalen kommer att kunna prova på att programmera, göra musik och bygga robotar och mycket annat också. Det kommer göras och spelas musik och vi kommer också ha inspirerande talare på plats. Det kommer bli en rolig dag, jag är så peppad!
Lördag den 18 april kommer tjejer mellan 11 och 18 år att få gå gratis på festivalen (som hålls på KTH-området). Förutom robotprogrammering, 3D-printning och liknande kommer de också bjudas på uppträdanden av Robyn, Zhala och DJ Lap See. Tekla organiseras av KTH, med hjälp av Popkollo, och med Spotify, Paradox Interactive, Google och Valtech som partners.
– Jag hoppas att fler tjejer får chansen att upptäcka att teknik kan vara ett kul jobb.
