Ni som lyssnat på vår pod och/elller läst denna blogg och/eller mina gamla bloggar vet hur mycket Kevin Gates betyder för mig. Sen jag chans-lyssnade på All In efter att ha sett tapet på nån blogg i februari 2009, två låtar in. Sen dess har jag varit fast.
Jag trodde aldrig att detta skulle hända. Kevin släppte tre mixtapes 2009 medan han satt i finkan. Internet bevakade inte hans liv och karriär då så den enda info som gick att finna var nån enstaka kommentar på typ Lousiana Herrald dot com eller nån sån mini-tidning som precis skaffat hemsida. Han skulle sitta inne i minst tio år och karriäen var slut. Det var de DJ-drop fyllda mixtapen från 2009 (och nåt från 2008) som vi fick. Det skulle förbli hans hela musikkarrär. Så såg det ut.
All den talang skulle vara förgäves. Det sätt han förmedlade känslor genom sin musik, det var slut. Sen kom han ut hösten 2011 efter att ha ryktats bli frisläppt under hela året. Jag tweetade fram och tillbaka med hans dåvarande manager för att få klarhet, men fick mest förslag om att jag skulle kolla in andra artister i hans stall.
Men så kom han ut, och Kevin visade direkt att han inte hade förlorat sin talang under åren han var inlåst.

Ni har redan hört hans musik. Jag är glad att jag fick va med och uppleva tiden innan många av hans klassiker skapats, tiden då det var såna här löften om storhet vi lyssnare fick suga åt oss.
