Året var 2007, och jag stod på toppen av min rockstjärnekarriär.
Allt började bara något halvår tidigare. Vi var ett gäng unga till inte så unga män som brukade träffas i kulvertarna under Umeå universitet. Där, i det högteknologiska Humanistlabbet (HUMlab) samlades vi någon gång i veckan för att avbryta studierna och göra det vi älskade allra mest: spela tv-spel. Vi plockade med oss våra bärbara Nintendo DS-enheter, kopplade samman oss (trådlöst!) och levde ut, fullständigt. Mario Kart DS, Tetris Attack och Meteos var några av spelen som gick varma. Och så en liten import-pärla som hette Daigasso! Band Brothers.
Daigasso var egentligen ett Band Hero i miniformat. Var och en av oss fick ansvar för ett instrument, och sedan gällde det att trycka på rätt knapp i rätt takt. Inte så avancerat, men väldigt svårt. Ambitionsnivån var aldrig särskilt hög. Vi spelade för lite för att bli riktigt bra, men tydligen gjorde det intryck ändå. En person från Bildmuséet hade hört oss spela, och ville att vi skulle uppträda under ”Kulturnatta” i Umeå. Vi hade naturligtvis aldrig sett oss som ett band innan, men nu började vi planera rep och fixa scenkostymer.
Vi spelade inför ett 20-tal personer. Det lät förjävligt. Men bollen var redan satt i rullning.
Lokalnyheterna fick nys om oss.
Sedan gick det fort. Vi spelade på Norrlandsoperan. Vi var med i tv-programmet Sverige. Vi red på samma våg som skateboard-åkande hundar och föräldrar som föder åttlingar brukar göra. Egentligen var det väl kanske omöjligt för bokarna på Hultsfredsfestivalen att inte höra av sig.
Om resan till festivalen, upplevelsen att ha backstage-pass och bara träffa Sahara Hotnights (som kommer från Robertsfors, ett halv stenkast från Umeå) och allt det andra finns mycket att skriva. Men jag lämnar det därhän för den här gången. Kolla istället på Rockfoto och tänk er oss, med tekniska problem och ungefär 150 pers i publiken. Tänk er Smoke on the water som extranummer. Stylusorkestern var en brinnande stjärna som steg fort, och kraschade ännu fortare. Det började som ett konstprojekt och slutade med en rundgång under regntunga smålandshimlar.
