”En pod som heter vad den handlar om”. Så beskriver Nanna Johansson sin och Jonatan Unges nya podcast ”Spela spel”. Och ja, det gör den ju. I en intervju med SVT Kultur berättar Nanna (som jag älskar rakt ut) om hur de båda är som ett par idioter, snarare än experter, som ska prata om spel. Jag tycker det är att sälja in sig lite kort. Jonatans spelhistorik hade jag ingen aning om, men att Nanna är en jävel på digitala kortspelet Hearthstone har väl nästan ingen kunnat undgå. Det känns grymt att äntligen få höra mer om det.
En spelskrivande kollega frågade en relevant fråga på Twitter när nyheten om podden nådde nätet: ”Är det verkligen fler idioter vi behöver?”. I det här fallet kändes det visserligen som ett oerhört ödmjukt sätt att beskriva sig själv (från poddmakarna) snarare än en faktisk diagnos. Men förstår vi frågan utifrån det klimat som råder i speljournalistkretsar våren 2016 är den mer relevant. Nedskärningarna bland de kanaler som tidigare burit speljournalistikens fana högt är oerhört nedslående. Att vara seriös kulturkritiker och inrikta sig på spel är inte lätt idag. Och vissa upplever det som att det här allvaret inte ens är något som efterfrågas. Samtidigt som yngre youtube-stjärnor blir miljonärer på att göra underhållning av andras arbete försöker de etablerade frilansspeljournalisterna få pengarna att räcka till mer än hyran, om ens det. Som före detta speljournalist (mer pretentiös än humoristisk, kanske) tycker jag att det här är ett stort problem. Och det är ett problem i betydligt vidare bemärkelse än att bara handla om speljournalistiken.
Men Johansson och Unge är inga idioter.
Det har kommit ut två stycken avsnitt av ”Spela spel”. Och jag gillar det. Humorn och kemin är vad som gör podden, till stor del. Men de båda bjuder också på en del insikter som kanske inte är så vanliga i det svenska spelpodcastklimatet. Kanske kan det här också vara en ingång för en bredare publik att hitta till den uppsjö av välproddade spelpoddar som faktiskt finns. Även om de flesta andra kanske är lite för långa och snackiga för min smak. Kanske kan ”Spela spel” få resten att höja sig lite. Vad vet jag. Jag kommer åtminstone fortsätta prenumerera på den här podden – och framför allt se fram emot när de kommer börja intervjua spelutvecklare från Malmö.
